Precise Radiation for Many Types of Cancer
In clinics across the country, SightLine Health provides some of the most cutting-edge therapy alternatives for patients who have been diagnosed with various types of cancers: High Dose Rate (HDR) brachytherapy, Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) and sophisticated electron beam radiation therapy. These therapies are not widely available at other outpatient treatment facilities.
HDR brachytherapy delivers more intense internal radiation to tumors while sparing nearby healthy tissue. Targeted, dose-controlled therapy, combined with powerful computer software, means treatment can be administered more precisely and in a shorter time frame than traditional low-dose brachytherapy or external beam radiation.
IMRT uses state-of-the-art technology to deliver more intense external radiation directly to tumors while sparing nearby healthy tissue. IGRT harnesses powerful computer technology to combine tumor imaging and treatment on a single machine that allows physicians to view and track tumors during therapy. Because tumors can move, high resolution, 3-D images enable physicians to pinpoint tumor sites, fine-tune patient positioning, better compensate for motion and breathing, and complete treatment with greater accuracy. For patients for whom IMRT/IGRT is not an option, we also provide standard high-dose radiation therapy.
For skin cancer, electron beam radiation therapy uses similar technology with tiny, electrically charged particles to target cancer cells on the surface of the body. The level of precision these therapies provide also allows for higher doses of radiation with less risk to surrounding tissue, increasing the likelihood of controlling or eliminating the cancer.
