SightLine Health Moves to North Dallas Location

Facility more convenient for North Texas women seeking noninvasive uterine fibroid treatments.

DALLAS, Texas, June 25, 2007—SightLine Health Dallas’ convenient new Preston Road location makes noninvasive, radiation-free treatment of uterine fibroids easily accessible to even more North Texas patients.

Last year, SightLine launched the Dallas-area’s only facility performing MR-guided focused ultrasound ablation (MRgFUS), a state-of-the-art treatment that uses ultrasound energy to destroy tumors. Moving the clinic from Allen to Dallas makes this nonsurgical procedure conveniently available to more patients seeking an alternative to invasive procedures such as hysterectomy and myomectomy.

“A growing number of North Texas physicians and patients recognize the advantages of this innovative outpatient procedure, and our move brings MRgFUS closer to where more of them live and work,” said TJ Farnsworth, chairman and CEO of SightLine.

Fibroids are abnormal growths within the muscles of the uterus. Although benign, fibroids often cause symptoms such as painful, heavy menstrual periods, constipation and lower back pain. They also can cause miscarriages or premature labor. Between 20 and 40 percent of women older than 35 have uterine fibroids, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

During an MRgFUS procedure, the patient is placed in a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) unit on a table outfitted with an ultrasound machine. Using the MRI to visualize the fibroids, a physician focuses the ultrasound waves onto them. This heats and destroys the fibroid cells. The procedure involves very little discomfort, and patients may return to normal activities within a day or two.

At SightLine Dallas, experienced gynecologists and radiologists collaborate to perform focused ultrasound, and care coordinators stay with patients throughout their procedures to ensure comfortable and professional health care experiences.

“Recent clinical research studies show focused ultrasound to be very safe and highly effective at providing long-term relief from uterine fibroid symptoms, and health plans are steadily adding this procedure to their coverage,” Farnsworth said. “We are excited about bringing this option to Dallas-area women and making it accessible to as many as possible.”

SightLine’s relocated clinic is south of Frankford Road at 17950 Preston Road, Suite 120, Dallas, Texas 75252. For more information about focused ultrasound and SightLine Health, please call 214-453-2004. Patients interested in a consultation may call for an appointment.
